When he first contemplated submitting his recipe, Sergeant Winslow Taylor didn’t think he’d have a chance at being selected. So when he received the call from the producers at CBC’s Recipe to Riches, it took him by surprise.
Sgt Taylor, a member of the Lorne Scots Regiment since 2002 has always been passionate about cooking proper meals for himself, and his family. Even while on deployment in Afghanistan in 2010, he was selected to cook for his team mates. He prided himself on using proper ingredients in proper portions with proper spices to create a meal everyone could enjoy.
Winslow had a simple home cooked recipe, which he submitted to the 2014 season of CBC’s Recipe to Riches. The show is a partnership between CBC and Presidents Choice to select a new meal for the PC brand. Winslow’s recipe had been selected out of thousands of entries, his product and entrepreneurial expertise got him a chance to distribute and promote his entrée, PC’s Jammin Jamaican Lobster Bisque. You can now pick one up wherever President’s Choice products are sold. Winslow has won his round, and received $25,000 so far.
Winslow has been fortunate, it was a hard competition, but has received the loving support of his family, his children and his fiancé Dianna. He has also been receiving a lot of support from the members of the Lorne Scots. He was on hand this past Thursday night to thank his supporters in the Regiment, where the Peel Company JR’s Mess purchased enough to feed the entire company. Showing off his cut out, signing boxes and posing for photos with the CO, RSM, OC & the rest of Peel Coy & RHQ; Thursday turned into a fun night for all.
Peel Company shows their support to Sgt Taylor, who’s Jammin Jamaican Lobster Bisque made it to the final round on CBC’s Recipe to Riches, at an event organized by the JR’s Mess to serve his recipe to the Company and RHQ
But the contest isn’t over yet, Winslow is now set to enter the final round. The prize will be $250,000, of which Winslow has agreed to donate a portion of to Wounded Warriors. In order to win, his recipe will be open to voting between 26 March and 30 March at CBC.ca/RecipetoRiches with the results being aired at the finale on 2 April at 9pm. And don’t forget to purchase the PC Jammin Jamaican Lobster Bisque, if you can find a store that isn’t sold out. Cpl Chris Banks
