Col Conover receives his Bronze Star

The recent Change of Command Parade included the presentation of the Bronze Star to Col Conover by the Honourary Colonel, the Honourable John McDermid PC. On August 21, 2006 The US Army authorized the award of the Bronze Star Medal for Service to the living Canadian veterans of the 1st Special Services Force for their service to the U.S. Army during World War II. WO Fallowfield was also presented a Joint Task Force Afghanistan Commanders Commendation, for Outstanding professionalism and during devotion to duty his deployment from August 2006 to February 2007.

Change of Command Parade

On 20 June 2009 The Lorne Scots and invited guests, embraced a Wet Day in Milton with a Change of Command parade. LCol Tim Orange CD, Commanding Offices has after two years and eight months handed over the reins to LCol Andre Phelps CD. As a part of the Day the Unit also conducted a Freedom of the City parade where Mayor Gordon Krantz, and the Commanding Officer of 32 CMBG CBG, helped to re-enact the historic rite of allowing a formed military unit to march through the city with "Drums Beating, Bayonets Fixed and Colours Flying."

Lorne Scots Warrant Officer receives Commander's Commendation in Afghanistan

At the Recent Change of Command WO Fallowfield was presented a Joint Task Force Afghanistan Commanders Commendation, for Outstanding professionalism and devotion to duty during his deployment from August 2006 to February 2007.

Ex Khyber Thrust

Exercise Khyber Thrust saw a Company Group and Contingent Command Group of more than 200 soldiers deploy to Fort Irwin, California, for three weeks in March 2009. Led by the Lorne Scots. The troops worked with the 5th Stryker Brigade Combat Team as it prepared conducted its final confirmation exercise before heading overseas for operations. The Lorne Scots took the lead providing the Contingent Command Team, Operations Staff and a Complete Company Group and Infantry Platoon. The soldiers worked in the role of the IRAQI National Army training in Full Spectrum Operations with doctrine similar to that of the Canadian Army.

65th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings in Normandy

On June 5th - the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings in Normandy - Heritage Halton Hills unveiled a plaque on Normandy Boulevard, highlighting the low-cost housing built on that street for returning veterans.

Jim Brandford was there - he was a sergeant in the Lorne Scots in the fifties, and he lived on the street. Many thank to the Pipes and Drums as Pipers Don Maceachern and Matt Chambers led the Legion Colour Party down Normandy Boulevard.

 
Congratulations to Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel John J.F. Davis on his appointment.
Colonel Davis served with the Lancashire Fusiliers in Egypt, Kenya, the British Army on the Rhine, Cyprus and Guyana, and with 2 RRF in Berlin.

He commanded 1 Royal Brunei Malay Regiment, and worked at SEATO and at the British Embassy in Bangkok. His appointment makes another link in the relationship between the RRF and The Lorne Scots.

The Canadian Forces Liaison Council has honoured the City of Kitchener
for its support of Captain Tom Ruggle and Jessica Umlandt, who each served as reservists in Afghanistan.
